Default The secret to my error 7 possible solved

Quote:
If your line has 1/20 contention, then that means you actually share 1 BB line with 20 people. If too many of them log on... you get kicked off. Usually you can tell this has happened because you can reconnect immediately.
Quote:
With a broadband line, you share the theoretical bandwidth of your connection with a number of other people. If you have 1:20 contention then up to 20 people including yourself share the connection, though of course not all of them will be online at any one time. You get no choice in this; it is part of the package you buy.
Quote:
All broadband packages have contention, no matter who supplies them. It should tell you in the details for your package what your contention ratio is...the contention ratio on my Pipex Solo ADSL is 50:1, for example.
Couple of quotes from another site discussing a similare problem, long story short this is whats probably causing my error 7s, Maybe not just me as well....

(please note i am not tech savvy, so this is not the be all and end all).

(edit, maybe one for the tech section, but i only posted here as its for everyones general info).

Well the first one applies to me in a way, share a router with 4 other computers and I always get logged off of everything but can log back in a second later. Hmm.

It doesn't matter if your connection drops for a second or two. The guildwars client program should re-sync with the server. It's 3rd rate programming if they cannot. It's not like they do not have enough money now (with all the sales), they should hire some competent network programmers.

Ugh I wish it was able to. Many a times in UW with an awesome group then BOOM Err=7. But yeah it really should, I don't understand why if you D/C while in a group, even for longer then a few seconds, you aren't able to enter back into the previous area with the party you had.

I have a feeling they already do this, sometimes I might have a straight 5 minute 'lag session' where I can't do anything and then all of a sudden, after all that time, it somehow manages to catch up again and I continue happily.

Most of the time when I get err=7 I actually have to restart before I can login again, the game wouldn't be able to re-sync in this circumstance, hence the err=7.

It doesn't. Right now im having some minor network problems, and my connection drops for 2-3 seconds every 5-10 minutes. NetErr=7 Every single time.

If you're having problems with too many connections causing errors in your network, you likely need QoS-enabled hardware. Businesses use QoS (Quality of Service) to make sure their networks perform as best as possible, so most QoS-enabled hardware is rather expensive (since it's geared toward the business community). Lucky for us, a company called Hawking has recently released a QoS for home use. The HBB1 optimizes network traffic; most notably, it allows a steady, constant bandwidth for gaming applications. My home has three computers (and three TVs) accessing the same cable line, and this little device has taken away all problems related to gaming in guildwars while uploading or downloading files from other computers. Since installing the HBB1, I've had zero network related errors. Do note, though, that if your network falloff is caused by something other than several computers sharing bandwidth, this likely will not help you.
